Challenge
In this program, InForm evaluated the structural integrity of Lawton’s new 750-ton extruder design and compared the improvements to previous designs. A baseline Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of their current 400-ton extruder was performed to establish a design configuration that would limit deflection of a new die and die holder during operation. Recommendations were made for design enhancements and complete analysis documentation was provided.
Result
The load case resulted in an acceptable static load distributed evenly over the internal surfaces of the liner due to internal pressures as well as the clamp load between the liner and die face.
